Frankie Said (The Very Best Of) Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Released by Salvo Records on 5 November 2012

Music review by Colin Serjent

Nearly thirty years since Frankie Goes To Hollywood drew the wrath of BBC DJ Mike Read, bless him, when he banned their debut single Relax from his programme, and was subsequently left off their airwaves by Auntie Beeb, a new compilation has been released, even though they only released two albums. Incidentally, Relax became the seventh best-selling UK single of all time.

Frankie said (The Very Best Of) contains remastered material from original master tapes, featuring eight singles, notable album tracks and two of the biggest selling 12" singles.

A major reservation is that, compared to the vinyl versions, these digital recordings lack a bit of umph. Neil Young would probably agree!
In all there are three versions of Two Tribes, two versions of The Power Of Love and Relax, and versions ofWar!, Welcome To The Pleasuredome (a remade world), Rage Hard, Watching The Wildlife, Warriors Of The Wasteland, Kill The Pain, Maximum Joy, and inexplicably Ferry Cross The Mersey and Brucie's Born To Run, performed live on the ace Channel 4 prog The Tube.
