Whittled down from ninety entrants, the ten finalists of the WOW flash fiction event performed their pieces to a welcoming audience of admirers and participants. The theme of gothic horror and gruesome chilling tales made the evening tingle with expectation and dread - not of fear as such but more at the prospect of having to perform your stuff in front of an audience.

They all did well considering some had never done so before, the best of the rest were a good mix of eclectic and snappy tales of the unexpectant variety. I particularly liked the winner, Karl Russell’s Your Turn, which Ramsey chose for it originality and quirkiness.

Afterwards a reading of an original short by Ramsey of 1960s vintage, set in New Brighton fairground lets us all go home with that someone’s behind you feeling. All in all a chilled chilling evening of good entertainment and fresh new writing.
