Artist Profile - Claire Stringer

By Colin Serjent

Claire, who has a BA(Hons) in Fine Art painting, taken at the Glasgow School of Art in 2001, exhibits her work in a wide variety of spaces including cafes, concert halls, libraries and other public venues.

"Making art is a way of interpreting and forming a greater understanding of my environment and experiences," she said. "My work is concerned with capturing and expressing the energy of the moment. In it I hold a balance between figurative and abstract representation," she added. " In both I aim to retain the rawness and simplicity of my initial observation through the use of line and colour."

Among the commissions she has received was at the 'Society' night club in Liverpool in 2003. She painted a large scale mural, which was based on her 'Energy Field' painting (see Gallery 1 in reference to this on her in depth website www.clairestringer.com). The commission was later extended to include paintings on a glass panel and doors adjacent to the mural.

In the past three years Claire has exhibited her work extensively. It includes a solo show, titled 'An Order Of Chaos' at the Puschka Restaurant in Rodney Street during the 2004 Liverpool Arts Biennial. This was then replaced at the restaurant with a selection of her 'Laos Studies' (from gallery 2 on her website).

Her most recent exhibition was at the Unity Theatre in Liverpool, which was a joint venture with Michael Pace-Sigge, another Liverpool-based artist. This exhibition included all of her latest 'Energy in Transition' work (refer to gallery 4 on her website).

Claire has also exhibited, among other venues on Merseyside, at Backburne House, The Atrium in the Liver Buildings, The Kif Gallery and during the Sefton Open exhibition at the Atkinson Gallery in Southport.
