Artist Profile - Angela Conifer

By Colin Serjent

Angela Conifer - who describes her art work as being abstract oriented and expressionistic - is very influenced by photography, notably close-up images.
"I have a good eye in composing photographs, which helps me in my painting construction," she said. "I can isolate the detail of something - isolate a piece from the whole."
Angela, who graduated in Fine Art at Wirral Metropolitan College, believes that it has helped give her a lot of confidence in producing her art.
"It gave me a better creative focus and a more analytical viewpoint."
She predominantly uses oils and acrylics, usually on a large format, "with all of my work being based on personal memories of mine."
Since completing her degree she has been commissioned by Liverpool City Council to produce artwork within the local community, including murals at Everton Brow; a large mural at Mill Street in Dingle, which went all round the St. Okopas building; and one at Greenbank Park.
Angela used to be a professional graphic artist, illustrating publicity material for the NHS.
She currently runs art workshops for children who have been excluded from school through bullying or poor family support.
Her work has been exhibited at the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead, the Liverpool Philharmonic Concert Hall, the Egg Café (during the 2002 Liverpool Arts Biennial), the Urban Café, and most recently at the newly opened South Bohemia Art Gallery in Smithdown Road in Liverpool.
Angela was artist in residence at the Liverpool City Community Art College in 2004.
