Artist Profile - Sandra Estrada

Sandra Estrada, based in Northern Spain, worked in Liverpool as an art teacher for children in several schools during 2013.

"The work experience was very satisfying," she said, "I like working with children; I learn a lot from them."

She had previously created an art project that combined painting with music. For example, as she describes it, "a broken horizon was morphologically? identical to the representation of the sound of a wave."

The outcome, the shape sound, is, she said, "the result of a journey over a long time."

The audiences who attend her exhibitions often wear headphones. "That come out the pictures," she remarked.

Other projects are multidisciplinary. They include painting, printmaking, video, drawing, music, poetry and theatre.

She also composes music, lyrics and songs for the guitar. Very much in touch with the natural world, as she looks over to a mountain, "it combines my two passions, art and music."

Estrada is inspired by the vitalists and expressionist painters, "particularly their very spontaneous brush strokes."

She has a Bachelor in Fine Art from the University of Vigo. As well as Spain, she has exhibited her work in England, USA and Germany.
