Somali Women's Art

“The items shown are what we would term ‘house hold utensils’. They are made out of bamboo that has been dyed different colours and then woven together. Depending on the use they may be made with clay and then covered with the bamboo. Fabric may be sewn on to the bamboo.

Here in the UK they are used mainly for decoration but in Somalia each would have had a specific use.”
