International Women's Day Celebrations in Liverpool

March through Liverpool
12th March 2011

By Lisa Marie White 24/3/2011

I would just like to thank all of those involved in organising the events and stalls at Bluecoat today and of course the march through Liverpool city centre.

I went on the march this afternoon and felt empowered, for the first time ever, walking passed the lap dancing club, X in the City, by Lime Street. As we walked in front of this venue, I felt we as women were able to collectively voice our opposition to the sexual objectification of women in these establishments. I was overwhelmed by the presence of so many dedicated women, cutting across age, social class, race and disability and much more. I also saw men on the march supporting the cause, and this of course was great to see. The presence of children there was also fantastic, who had been brought along by parents and carers.

Thanks again for a great day, Lisa.
