The Alligator Club presents Twisted Christmas

North-West professional playwrights collective The Alligator Club will take over the Liverpool Playhouse Studio this year with a late night alternative Christmas show on Friday 21 & Saturday 22 December.

Join a travelling band of misfits and wasters as they escape a bleak mid-winter night by breaking into the Playhouse Studio to entertain you with twisted tales of Christmas time and beg or borrow a penny or two from their unsuspecting audience.

This sinister little show is packed full of live music, magic, black comedy and debauchery, and is strictly for adults only. Hear the carols you know and love flipped on their heads and take in four new wickedly dark tales for a very modern Christmas.

The show, produced by playwrights Andrew Ness (‘Red Panda’), Kellie Smith (The Sum of Parts, Homeowners and I) Anne Irvine (‘The Twelve’ Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester) and featuring award winning playwright Laurence Wilson (‘Urban Legend’ at Liverpool Everyman, winner Best Play of the Year Award 2005 and ‘Blackberry Trout Face’ which won Best New Play for Young People, Brian Way Award, 2010), will give audiences a much needed opportunity to break away from the stresses and strains of tinsel, turkey and last minute shopping dashes to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with the hapless travelling band of wasters.

The cast features talented local actors Aisling Leyne (‘Cell’ at The Library Theatre and ‘Forget Me Not’ at Liverpool Playhouse Studio), Joe Shipman (‘Ten Tiny Toes & The Way Home’ at Liverpool Everyman and ‘Macbeth’ at Unity Theatre), Mike Neary (‘Fall From Grace’ and ‘The Parks Edge’ at Liverpool Playhouse) and Stephanie Greer (Athena in ‘Sophocles’ Ajax’ (Altitude North/National Theatre of Cyprus)and Beauty in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at The Dukes, Lancaster). The show will also feature actor/ musician David Hewson (recent credits include ‘Faust’ at Greenwich Theatre and ‘Aladdin’ at Leeds City Varieties).

The multi talented cast will play a variety of musical instruments throughout the show from the mandolin, guitar and clarinet to a tin whistle and a box melodeon- this is a Christmas show like no other.

This Christmas cracker of a show will be directed by John Ward Artistic Director of DumbWise an award winning actor- musician led theatre company.

John is excited about the prospect of creating an alternative Christmas show, John said: ‘It's great to be working with a collective of writers on an alternative Christmas show because the material is so utterly endless. You can hit all the high notes; from the monstrous to the sublime. And with audiences always up for a theatrical romp come the holidays - Twisted Christmas will not disappoint!’
