Theatre writing scheme

Theatre by the Lake in Keswick has announced another new writing initiative, following the success of the New Cumbria Play Competition. tEXtPERIMENT is designed to encourage writers in the region to develop new work inspired by science and the ethical dilemmas associated with science.

tEXtPERIMENT will be a series of rehearsed readings of new work in progress, with public discussions, to follow each performance of Theatre by the Lake’s production of Caryl Churchill’s A Number in the 2005 summer season.

tEXtPERIMENT is open to any writer living in the Arts Council England, North West region. A selection panel will choose five new pieces from the submissions. The theatre requires a concise synopsis of your idea and script (one side A4 double spaced) and up to 10 pages of sample script (A4 double spaced).

The deadline for submissions is 1 March 2005 and the selected writers will be informed by 11 April 2005. Selected writers will be given professional workshop time during September 2005.

tEXtPERIMENT will be launched in January with a presentation by Dr Ann Lackie. This will be a free event, but demand for tickets is expected to be high.
