The Shape of Things

The Shape of Things is the new film from writer/director Neil LaBute whose past works include ‘In The Company of Men’ and ‘Possession’.

The film underlines issues that many people live their lives trying not to notice. They are issues that if looked at could undermine a persons’ sense of being. There is recognition that we are obsessed with trivia - modelled on trivialities and on the whole are, maybe not real people. The role of the artist is to unveil the shape of things. The main character Evelyn, played by Rachel Weisz, is an artist that fully absorbs herself in this quest. All of the characters are irritatingly cheesey, as is the bulk of the dialogue. Somehow somewhere along the line the film took shape and what a great shape. Bang* The Shape of Things is well worth a viewing, though the viewer needs a little patience to survive.

The Shape of Things will be showing at the Fact from 19th Dec.
