Crime and Punishment

‘What is the life worth of one lousy money-lender?’

Burjesta Theatre presents….

Fyodor Dostoevsky’s classic tale of murder…

‘Crime and Punishment’

12th to 18th November @ The Casa, Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BQ

A murderer stalks the streets of Petersburg…

Burjesta Theatre’s autumn production is an in-house adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s 19th century classic novel, ‘Crime and Punishment’ set among the poverty of Petersburg, Russia.

A hallucinatory tale, of murder, guilt, redemption, part dreamscape, part reality. Grotesque, poignant, absurd and black humoured.

Follow embittered intellectual Raskalnikov as he prowls around the streets of the capital
Meet a host of unforgettable characters…
Marmeladov, the drink-sodden civil servant,
Katerina Ivanovna, half-crazed with consumption, defiantly fighting against all authority,
Sonya, deeply religious but forced to prositute herself to feed her younger siblings,
And Porfiry, the Detective Inspector, bumbling fool on the surface
But deadly serious in his intent to catch a murderer who remains at large.

We’re performing ‘Crime and Punishment’ at our place of residence ‘The Casa’ on Hope Street, Liverpool. With a new lighting system in place, and an increased capacity of 100, it makes for a great fringe theatre space.
