Coal Action Network Roadshow

Coal Action Network Roadshow

Wednesday 13th April 2016, 7-9pm,
Next To Nowhere, 96 Bold Street, L1 4HY

Burning coal produces vast amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, but the social justice and local environmental issues are often over looked. This Coal Action Network event fills this gap and exposes the UK’s coal industry, following the coal from its global sources to the power stations which burn it.

We are working with Reclaim the Power to shut down the UK’s biggest opencast coal mine Ffos-y-fran near Methyr Tydfil during the End Coal Now camp from the 30th April to the 4th May. Come to this open meeting to discuss the reasons for the camp and share practical information on how to get involved.

Reclaim the Power mass action camp: End Coal Now. Let’s shut down the UK’s largest coal mine.

The local community in Methyr Tydfil have fought for years to resist the corporate owners of the mine, Miller Argent, who pollute the area and whose coal fuels dirty Aberthaw power station. The company are now trying to force through plans for a huge new opencast mine on common land next door at Nant Llesg – despite it being rejected by the local council last year. From Saturday 30th April to Wednesday 4rg May we’ll be setting up camp nearby in solidarity with the community, and in support of a wave of resistance to fossil fuel extraction around the world. We’ll then take action to shut down Ffos-Y-Fran, the UK’s largest opencast coal mine.
