Artist Profile - Elizabeth Willow

“Much of my work, whether it takes from of objects, performance, or hybrid of both, is concerned with symbolism and metaphor - with the personal and cultural meanings that we assign to objects, materials, and places.

I am frequently inspired by dreams, mythology and fairy tales, and by the archetypes which inhabit them and which influence both individual and collective understanding beliefs and desires.

My work often involves an element of contradiction - sometimes using materials (including myself) which have at the same time strength and delicacy; creating objects whose properties defy their function; or attempting to exploit or subvert the tension between opposing forces of qualities such as attraction and repulsion, secrecy and spectacle, freedom and constraint, The supposed imaginary and the purportedly real”
