Valley FM

This is an innovative community-broadcasting project, which has "Really woke people up" to the opportunities in digital media.

A local media organization, Alt Valley Community Media (AVCM), set up the project in April this year. locals of all ages from Croxteth, Norris Green, Fazakerley, and Clubmoor were involved in presenting live shows from a purpose built studio in Croxteth Communiversity. "We didn't avoid the negative stuff", said Ste Maudley, Chair of Alt Valley Community Media, "but there is more going on than Ross Kemp coming here seeking out gang culture. Kids from St Teresa's and Leamington Road Schools broadcast programmes about the Haiti Disaster, fashion, and wrestling. Self esteem has been boosted and a positive side of the area presented. The project even helped dispel geographical myths that people had of each other."

Aimed at bridging the digital divide using podcasts and internet streaming, the training covered research skills, mind mapping, 'Driving the decks', presenting, as well as interviewing techniques.

Valley FM is currently broadcasting on-line, and there are plans to repeat the project in the future.
