Artist Profile
- Maxine Shisselle

My inspiration in producing art, like many artists, has changed over the years, but the main link is I just need to have paint colours, a brush and a canvas. I also enjoy working with mixed media and collage focusing on textures.

The subject matters I concentrate on have varied over the years, and yet looking back I was always interested in architecture and design.

A few years ago I found myself involved in the world of breast cancer. As I was already involved helping charities, I decided because my paintings helped raised funds for good causes I approached the Liverpool art community and created 'Go Pink 08'.

The exhibition attracted forty artists, who very kindly donated their work for the show.

Last year I organised 'Go Pink & Blue 09', which involved eighty local artists supporting female and male specific cancers.

Organising these exhibitions encouraged me - I felt more connected and enthusiastic about painting, I decided it's about time I had a solo exhibition. I booked the Liverpool Academy of Arts for the space, in 2010 and produced forty paintings.

I've focused on various subjects but when I became involved with charities and subsequently donated a painting to be auctioned, I thought the most appropriate subject was our wonderful skyline as I knew it would attract more interest at the venues.

I have now donated so many paintings over the years for various charities, which has inspired me to think more deeply about what we have before us, for instance, Liverpool is filled with charm and some amazing features. More recently I have concentrated on different elements of the city's creative side.
