ACE Learning Disability disco takes new venue by storm

ACE clients outside the old venue

Active Community Enterprise (ACE), whose successful Tuesday discos closed down on Tuesday 10th March at Lloyds bar, moved into their new disco venue in style on the same day.

ACE left their old Lloyds Bar Venue in a procession at 1.30pm and entered their new venue at 2pm, via Concert Square and Bold Street. The procession was lead by the Pied Fiddler of Liverpool, drummers and a numerous array of magical Liverpool characters.

Steve Percival one of ACE founders said "I'm really looking forward to getting into our new venue and starting the party. Initially I was a bit stunned by Lloyds bar cancelling our discos. But I quickly realized, after the amazing public support, that this could be the best thing that's happened to us. Both ACE and our clients have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from both the Liverpool public and by pub and club owners, and people wanting to come and know more about the discos. So in a way the owners of Lloyds Bar, Wetherspoons have done us a favour without meaning to. We are really excited about moving to our new venue, the owners and managers have been brilliant but, also, we can offer everyone an even better time and give the clients we work with their jobs back. Everyone is welcome on Tuesday to join us on the procession, disabled or not. For ACE it also means, we can begin to focus on ACE's many other activities. Our community garden and gardening projects, our arts groups, our cinema project, and amazing new ventures where we plan to offer more work opportunities to our clients."

Steve Percival and Steve and Laurenna Reed, former support workers who wanted to offer more excitement and choice to people with learning difficulties, established ACE in 2009. ACE offers quality-training, qualifications, voluntary and paid employment to its clients, as well as a chance to develop friendships. This improves people's lives, their feelings of self-worth and social status, enabling ACE and its clients to give back to the community.
