Proposed demolition in Granby!Cairns Streets blockaded, as street resistance begins - 11/7/2011The long saga of the proposed demolition of beautiful Victorian houses on Cairns Street (Off Granby Street, L8) went onto a new phase today as the demolishers turned up. Demolishers had been given the thumbs up by the labour controlled council. But the remaining residents on Cairns Street and supporters from the surrounding streets (primarily elderly women), put a stop to the demolition, by blocking the way of both demolishers and police. Cairns Street residents will be starting their blockade 8am every morning (from 12/07) and are calling for those who support them to turn up. They are determined that the destroyers of communities and their supporters (Labour, Lib Dem and private interests) must be stopped from destroying their community. Call to Action: June 21st. Make your voice heard about this demolition! - 20/6/2011The proposed demolition of 4 houses in the Granby 4 Streets, two in Kingsley Road and two in Cairns Street has been halted pending a site visit by councillors on 21st June. The site visit is taking place on June 21st, at approx 11.15 for 15 minutes. Legally you can't speak to Councillors at this site meeting, however you are entitled to speak at the final decision meeting, which will start after 12 p.m. in the Council Chambers (Application ref: 11F/0503).
